How do we respond to students' errors if they make any gramatically mistake? I think it depends what levels of students you are teaching. First, if you teach the beginners, they are more likely to make errors because they like to express themselves but they are not yet ready to form a complete and well managed sentence. However, i will let them to talk instead of keep interrupting their ideas, because this is what we learn even with our mother tongue, once we get used to it, we will automatically know how to use the language instead of putting rules for the beginners. They may choose to be quiet and never want to learn because they are afraid to make any gramatically mistake. However, i will still correct them at the end of the talk or some big problems i may correct them right away while they are talking. On the other hand, as a higher level of students like students in our faculty, teachers should be tough and harsh on us because for the fact that we shouldn't have made that much of gramatically mistake anymore. We are all trying to learn the proper way of english and we are all in english major as well. Most of us are even working so far, so we definitely need enough rules and knowledge for our own good. In my class, after checking their test paper, I always collect all the mistakes they made and then explain the correct grammar again to them. At the same time, I pose many questions to ask every student in order to make sure that the concepts of the grammar are really understood. As to the oral spoken, if I find the errors they make, I will ask them “Are you sure?” They are so smart that they can understand what my purpose is. By giving them another chance, they can think it twice and then answer it again.
PS. There are various answers on our textbook.

i think the appropriate attitude of responding to grammar errors is to tell their errors clearly and tell them what is better way to express. Also give them a example to emphasis your opinion. Grammar error is clear, and some rules even have stable respond. So it's nessesary for us to correct their mistake

When making an unappropriated grammar on a writing skills, you should ask your teacher or check the rules in grammar books. And it don't need to be frustrated when making an wrong grammar, just get more exercise and reading, like newspaper or grammar books. I think that is some right ways to do so. You will also increase your abilities on your own writing then.

I think an appropriate attitude in responding to grammar errors is to be paitent of our students. We can use some test to let them practice. I think the method of enhance the grammar ability is to practice and practice. It can let students be more empression from getting the error. Washback can let them memorize those grammar.
By the way, we can do some conversation and find the errors from this activity. It can let them improve by spelling.

I will not correct them right away. I'll wait until later of the class and tell them what are the grammar errors they would made, also tell them what are the possible errors they could made. It will hurt their feelings to correct them right away and it may possibly restrain their desire in learning. We should let our students learn in a stress free environment.

After my students finish their conversations or opinions, I will correct them about those mistakes. I not going to destroy some students confidence, and I think that's necessary to make them know what mistakes they have made or may meet later.

the student should be trained to learn by making as few mistakes as possible. . . He or she must be trained to adopt correct learning habits right from the start(L. Alexander). for the reason that i will give a negative feedback for my students, then i will tell them what are the grammar errors. Giving the students right answer.

I think I will help students to find their errors such as writing errors, and teach them how to write a correct sentence. And then, I will give another wrong sentences, and students should find the problems form these sentences. I think this form can immediately help students to learn mistaken form those sentences.

I think we can record the errors and give students opinions at last instead of interrupting them immediately or they may feel upset and embarrassed because of this action! And they may feel hard to continue the following expression.

I think that teachers can correct errors of students while teachers give some clues and hints to students. For example, teachers pinpoint the error to promote self-correction or peer correction, reply the student’s sentence to point where the error occurred or echo the mistake with a puzzled intonation. If teacher give a negative feedback, just one word “No”, student can’t find any clue and may feel embarrassed in the performance.

The way an ESL teacher adopts to respond to his or her students’ grammatical “errors” reflects an “attitude” toward language teaching.

I think that the teacher’s proper “attitude” about response to grammatical errors depends on the two chief considerations: speaking skills and writing abilities. The correction of grammar in the former is less important than that in the latter, for the teacher may make negative impact on students’ speaking fluency. Before responding to students’ errors, the teacher should be the class leader of much observation. Sometimes, some students who speak in public make grammatical “mistakes” a few times because of nervousness. If the teacher treats the mistakes as grammatical errors by correcting them directly, he or she may inadvertently hurt students’ feelings, the sense of pride and confidence in particular.

For me, it is a good way to face my students’ grammatical errors in speaking by means of “benign neglect” sometimes. Meanwhile, I hold a serious attitude toward my students’ grammatical errors in writing. Compared with their grammatical errors in speaking, I correct them in writing without any omissions. I hope that my students learn accurate grammar through writing and ask me some questions about their grammatical errors.

Teacher should concern about students’ errors that every student has different condition when learning second language. Besides, teacher should pay more patience and attention to the same mistakes on grammar errors that students easily make. Then, teacher carefully directs every part of grammar errors which they made before. After all, teacher makes a clear illustration on the errors and forces them to constantly practice these errors. In this way, students could improve and decrease making the same mistakes again.
